Privacy
This page covers makeitscarlet.com, the studio, the studio on other websites, accounts and the paid plans. Paid plans keep almost nothing. Free posts are paid for with what you share, and this page says exactly what that is.
On a paid plan
Your photo is cropped, sized and styled inside your own browser and is never sent to us. The line you type comes to our server only to be fitted to each platform, and is not kept. We keep your email, your plan, and how many posts you made each month, with no words attached.
The free trade
Free is 3 posts a month. Before your first free post we ask, and only if you say yes do we keep:
- Your photo, if no person is in it. After the post is made, your browser sends a fresh copy of the photo with no location data. A check looks for any person in it, by looking for a person in the picture, never by measuring a face. If it finds one, or cannot be sure, the photo is deleted at once and nothing of it is kept.
- The line you type.
- Your email, which we may use to tell you about Make It Scarlet. Every such email has a link to stop them, and stopping them does not end your free posts.
Why. To make BamBam better and to start a photo library. We will not sell or license your photos to anyone unless you say yes to that separately, later. Nothing kept is ever used to identify you, and nothing from before your yes is ever kept.
What it is worth. We estimate everything you share is worth about 20 cents a month to us. How we worked it out, from public market prices, at the low end: AI companies have paid about 2 to 4 cents for a photo bought in bulk, so 3 photos is about 6 cents; text for training sells for about a tenth of a cent a word, so 3 lines of about 25 words is about 7.5 cents; and a marketing email earns a business about 3 cents per person per send, so two a month is about 6 cents. We wrote the full math down with its sources when we set the plans, and we will update this estimate as we learn what the data really earns.
Saying no. If you say no, nothing is kept and no free post is made. Paid plans keep nothing.
Taking it back. On your account page, one button deletes every photo and line we kept and ends the trade. Free posts stop until you say yes again.
Where it is never asked. In the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, free keeps nothing at all and the trade is never offered.
Age. Free is for people 13 and up. We ask the year you were born and keep only whether you passed, never the year.
Accounts and sign in
Signing in sends a one time code to your email through our own sign in service. We keep your email and a fingerprint of your session, never a password.
Site keys
If you get a key to put the studio on your site, we store your email, the websites you list, your plan, and your colour, name and logo if you set them. The manage token is stored only as a scrambled fingerprint we cannot turn back into the token. On a free key, each visitor signs in and makes the free trade for themselves; the site owner cannot say yes for them.
Paying
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never to us. Stripe tells us your email, that you paid, which plan, and we tell Stripe how many extra posts you made, so it can bill them.
The early access form
If you join early access, we store your email, your business name, your Instagram handle if you add one, and the time you sent it, to reach you about early access and nothing else.
Floods
To stop floods of automated requests, the site keeps a counter tied to your network address for one minute. It is deleted on its own after that minute.
What we never do
We never sell what we keep. We never keep a photo with a person in it. We never measure a face. Nobody is added to a mailing list without saying yes to the free trade.
Where it lives
On Cloudflare, which hosts this site and runs the photo check, in stores only we can read, and with Stripe for payments.
Cookies and tracking
This site sets no cookies and loads no advertising or tracking scripts. Signing in keeps your session in your own browser's storage. Our host may count page views in aggregate, without cookies. On another website that embeds the studio, that website's own privacy notice covers the rest of its page.
Having it deleted
Use Take it back on your account page, or write to support@makeitscarlet.com from the email you used and we remove your account, your key or your early access entry. A paid plan is cancelled in Manage billing first, so you are not charged for something deleted.
Children
This site is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
